Heroes of Long Point
There really are allot of fish in the grassy waters of Long Point Bay. Perhaps that's what draws us there every summer. It's a beautiful place filled with an abundance of wildlife and lush scenery. Long Point Bay is more of a family and outdoorsman recreation getaway than the commercial bikini havens many of their neighboring ports have become. Perhaps one of the greatest things about the Long Point Bay area are the people who frequent it. While boating on the Saturday, following Canada Day weekend, we were fortunate to be saved by a couple of guys in a boat which I believe was called the "Eliminator." Although these guys were headed in the opposite direction of the marina we had come from, they felt that they could not leave our family stranded on the bay with no protection from the blistering sun. Our motor had popped a shear pin and the spare that we had brought ended up making a nice household ornament for a family of perch living at the bottom of the lake. We were way to far from the shore to even think about paddling. ...Continued at top right |

...Also, because we had to
meet our disabled son that evening @ 6pm sharp, (nobody else was available
to care for him after this time) we were under a strict time line.
Anyhow, even though these guys were headed in the opposite direction to which we needed to go, and although they themselves had been experiencing motor problems just minutes before they encountered us, they still took the time and energy to tow us back to our marina. When we got into the marina we tried to offer money to cover the fuel they used, if not their time, but they wouldn't take any money. They just said that they hoped we would do the same for someone else in the future. They left right away, I imagine they were pressed for time, we didn't even get their names, and they never even knew how important it was that we return back to our disabled son on time. Thank you guys! We hope you find these words of gratitude some day. Surely we will have you in our thoughts the next time we find someone who needs help. Hopefully they won't want us to pull them in our boat 'cause that tow ride was the fastest we'd ever gone in our tiny old boat. |
