The Huron Park Debate This debate was held to the tune of a full house. A parallel vote will be held by students here and is being sponsored by Elections Canada. The debate was kept formal, with well thought out questions on behalf of the student panel. It was evident that the history department, the school and the students when to great lengths to make the event a success in an effort to promote political awareness to our young people. The school went so far as to helping the students of voting age to register. We think that it is very important that young people learn this process. We meet many people who do not know how to register (click here for more info) Things really started to heat up during the open question period when students attacked CHP Candidate, John Markus, for derogatory comments he made towards gays and women's rights during his opening performance. These comments so outraged Liberal candidate Greg Mordue, that he waved his closing statement in favour of responding to the negative propaganda, telling students how wrong this message of hatred and intolerance is. We think it's just despicable, while quite frankly within character for for this bible thumping bigot to try to spread his hatred amongst our young people. |
We want to thank you for the tremendous support we received. We know that the reason that young people don't often get involved in the voting process because older people don't include them. We think it's awesome that our local high schools are getting more involved. The issues that you consider important as young people need to be important to the politicians if only for the simple fact that the future of any society is in the hands of it's young people. We believe in equality. We believe in integrity. And, we believe we have to fight for those things. Thank you for all of the cheers! You Guys Rock!
