Little
difference between leaders article by James bender

At the launch of the Gomery inquiry, Prime Minister Martin had agreed to call an
election within 30 days of Gomery’s final report which was due in February
2006.
It would be imprudent of all parties to bring this inquiry to a close before the
launch of the final report. This would be a catastrophic waste of taxes (and
time) and would leave most Canadians with a feeling of being robbed - added to
the feeling we were robbed by Mr. Chrétien and the Quebec Liberals.
To assign this great blame on anyone, the conclusion of the inquiry is of utmost
importance, otherwise everyone must agree that the present Liberal party has no
connection to this scandal and that the NDP and Conservative-alliance reform are
just up for a grab of sorts.
There is a general feeling there is nothing in this inquiry that would implicate
Martin or any member of the present sitting government in this scandal. The
members of the former governing Liberals who were implicated have long stepped
aside or retired from office. This corruption was not systemic in nature, but
isolated to a specific wing of the party.
There have been many scandals involving many different governments of many
political orientations. Our country has been mired in controversy since
Confederation. This will not be the last, but it raises the bar.
Now that we are on the topic of an election call, I would like to ask our
sitting member what exactly has he done during his time in office to advance the
cause of proportional representation in our political system? This was a subject
frequently enlisted during the past election campaign, but, once elected, I see
our member has done nothing to change this. This is is exactly what most
Canadians dislike about MPs, the inaccessibility and lack of accountability to
their constituents.
These things will never change as long as we allow the power hungry to consume
everything around us. These two parties might think they are circling the wagons
around the Liberals, but they ought to know that the chance of them dragging
Martin out of Sussex Drive by the neck is pretty limited.
As far as I am concerned, there isn’t a heck of a lot of difference between
any of these guys. Their insatiable appetite for power will certainly lead to
their own self-destruction. I can almost see Harper and Layton imploding during
the next election.
The only good thing that will come out of this gross election misspending is
that many MPs will fall and several leaders will be looking for employment
after. This will perhaps clear out some of the refuse they’ve all been talking
about. Hopefully these so-called leaders will be on top of the heap. After all,
isn’t this what they are looking for?Marijuana
